Disability Narratives

Back to the Topic

Video clip: Although he’d rather people did not hold the door open, Kevin understands that other disabled people would.

The thing is, it is going to vary from person to person. I prefer not to have doors held open for me, but I don't get asked arsy about it. Other people will get arsy. Other people will want you to hold open the door. So, so a spectrum of opinion there, that you need to, to handle. I think Tolstoy once said that 'happy families are happy in their own way, unhappy families are unhappy in individual ways', and with a disability it's always individual. And what's right for one person may be wrong for another. So, advice needs to reflect that.
