Disability Narratives

Video clip: Verity explains that despite appearances of functioning well at work, people cannot always tell how she is feeling.

I think mental health is just very difficult, because people can't see it. And so I've always been a very high functioning person, and I can carry on functioning. Well, reasonably well. Even when I'm quite poorly. Because when I'm well, I function really highly. So my not functioning very well is kind of eighty percent of normal people, so I can get away with that. And I think people find that very hard to match up with the fact that actually you're spending quite a lot of your time thinking about different ways to kill yourself. And the fact that you don't want to be alive any more.
