Interview excerpt: Roberta reflects on the implications of having a busy academic as a line manager.

So my line manager [is] just too busy to do all of this sort of thing. So we're sort of left to deal with it ourselves our line manager you know - she's phenomenally busy and will only be in the office maybe two days a week, if that. And, and mostly is in back to back meetings. It's not an open door policy, so for me to go in and say “I'm really [not doing well]”. That's not an open door conversation I feel I can have. They're thinking about their research and their work, and I suppose they don't think they need to look out for their staff's wellbeing so much because [they] aren't the personnel department or other ones to do that.
