Women in Science
Deciding on a career in science
Video clip: Alison’s father was a university academic and she remembers visiting his lab from when she was a small child. The whole family was interested in natural history.
I think I was always very aware of science because my father was a University academic. So I remember even as quite a little one, sort of five or six, going in to the lab, perhaps when my Mum was picking him up from work at the end of the day. So I, I never was not aware of science. I think part of the interest was the fact that we were really interested in natural history, as a family. So we used to go out and do a lot of photography and go on fungus forays and look at birds and so for me it was that curiosity, really about animals and plants.
